A good friend of mine was having a baby, so I needed to decide what to give her. I was able to give her this really great Baby Gate and Play Yard from Amazon. And additionally, I was able to crochet her some gifts. And this is the whole lot of crocheted items for the mommy-to-be: A baby blanket, childproof door knob covers, and a tether to keep things like pacifiers and sippy cups from falling to the ground.
Blanket:
- For the blanket, I used Red Heart Soft Baby Steps Yarn, Baby Pink (E746.9700).
- 5.5mm Crochet Hook
- Tapestry needle (for weaving in ends)
Ch 24
Row 1: 3dc in the 6th ch from hook, ch 1, *skip 2 ch, 3dc in next, ch 1, repeat from * until you get to the last ch, ch5 and sl into the same ch at the last cluster of 3dc.
Row 2: Rotate your work so you are on the opposite side of your base ch. Sl to next ch2 sp. Ch 3 (counts as stitch), 2dc in ch2 space, ch 1, *3dc in next ch2 sp, ch 1 and repeat from *until you reach the ch5 sp. In the ch5 sp 3dc, ch2, 3dc, ch2, 3dc, ch1. Now that you are on the other side *3dc in next ch1 sp, ch 1 and repeat from *until you reach the ch5 sp. In the ch5 sp 3dc, ch2, 3dc, ch2, 3dc, ch1, sl to top of ch 3.
Row 3-14: Sl to the next ch1 sp. Ch 3 (counts as stitch), 2dc in ch1 space, ch 1, *3dc in next ch1 sp, ch 1 and repeat from *until you reach the corner/ ch2 sp. In the corner sp 3dc, ch2, 3dc, ch1. Contine around putting 3dc in a ch1 space and 3dc, ch2, 3dc in a ch2/corner sp.
Edging:
You can switch colors here if you like or not. I did not have enough of the pink yarn to finish the edging, so I found something else in my stash.
Row 15: ch3 (counts as stitch), 1 dc in each stitch, 1 dc in each ch1 space, and 5 dc in each corner space, sl to first stitch.
Row 16: Sl in first st, sk 1 st, 5dc in next stitch, sk 1 st, sl into next st, this creates as shell. Repeat along the edge. In the ch2 sp/corner do 7dc instead of 5dc.
A friend of mine was having a baby, so I put together a few things that I crocheted as part of her gift, and I also was able to gift her this really great Baby Gate and Play Yard as well. And this is the whole gift for the mommy-to-be: A baby blanket, childproof door knob covers, and a tether to keep things like pacifiers and sippy cups from falling to the ground.
Tether:
I also made a tether just by making a long chain (I just made it what I thought would be long enough to wrap around a chair, a sippy cup and then not fall to the floor from a high chair, then I did tr across and then started a chain about 3” long, then attached it to the end and did as many singles as would fit across then did the same number of chains to make the ties, do that on both ends.
Knob Covers:
And the door knob safety covers I used Child-proof Door Knob Covers from This Lovely Life.
