I've been enjoying making Granny Rectangle Blankets, and so I decided my parents needed some. This is basically the same pattern l I used for A Baby Shower Gift Set except I used much more yarn and made it much larger.
I used a total of 10 skeins for both blankets, so about 5 for each. I did the full skein of the red, orange, and green/teal for each one but then I started splitting the colors in half. I tried to do this by weighing the skein as I worked off of it, but it wasn’t as reliable as I wanted it to be. So then I just guessed the right amount from the OUTSIDE pull on one blanket and then without detaching did the same amount from the same skein on the second blanket using the CENTER pull and got them even.
Materials for 2 Blankets
- 10 skeins of Caron Simply Soft Yarn
- 6mm Crochet Hook
- Stitch Marker
- Tapestry needle (for weaving in ends)
Below are the colors I used in order:
Blanket A:
- 1 Skein Harvest Red
- 1 Skien Pumpkin
- 1 Skien Green
- 1/2 Skien Robins Egg
- 1/2 Skien Blue
- 1/2 Skien Purple
- 1/2 Skien White
Blanket B:
- 1 Skein Harvest Red
- 1 Skien Pumpkin
- 1 Skien Cool Green
- 1/2 Skien Robins Egg
- 1/2 Skien Blue
- 1/2 Skien Purple
- 1/2 Skien White
The finished blanket measures approximately 53 x 42 inches, but it can stretch to be a tad larger.

You can keep going for as long as you want until the blanket is the size you like.
As I ran out of a color of yarn, I switched to another color and just joined wherever it had run out.
