My mother made our Christmas stockings when we were little. She crocheted them without following a pattern, and it is the style I have grown to love. I wanted to re-create them for my family, but with a few changes to make them my own. This is the pattern I came up with to make ours, and I love them! I hate having to finish a project after I'm done crocheting, so I tried to design this will as little extra work as possible. I haven't gotten around to my names yet, but you can easily sew them on after!
I hope you enjoy the pattern too!
You will need:
- Less than a skein of your main color (I used green)
- Less than a skein of your cuff color (I used white)
- Crochet hook size N
Pattern:
Chain 19
Row 1:
Single in 4th chain from hook until the end, then continue around the other side, then slip stitch to join.
Row 2-4: Chain 2, single in previous singles to end of row, slip stitch to join.
Row 5-7: Chain 2, single in previous singles to end of row, skip last single, slip stitch to join.
Row 8-9: Chain 2, skip first single then single in previous singles to end of row, skip last single, slip stitch to join.
Row 10: Chain 2, skip first single, then single through both layers for 7 singles. After, continue to single only in one layer around, then slip stitch to complete.
Row 11-18: Chain 2, single in every stitch, skip last stitch, slip stitch.
Chain 1, cut off.
Cuff:
Chain 25, slip stitch to join.
Scalloped edge: chain 1, **half double crochet, in same stitch double/chain 2/double, half double crochet, single** Continue the stitches in between ** around to make 6 scallops, slip stitch.
At this point you should really cut it off or come back and do this at the end. Instead I ran the ball of yarn back through the circle you just made to get the yarn in the other side and slipped stitch back to the other side of the original chains. When continuing this way, each of my stockings came out a little different so I had no idea how many stitches each had around the the top. So some of the following stitches went into the same stitch on the stocking bc it had less than the cuff I made, I just eyeballed it every so often just to get around.
Row 1: working from the bottom of the original chains, slip stitch onto a stitch at the top of the stocking and chain 2. Continue around to single in each stitch, with your single joining a chain from the cuff to a stitch on the stocking, then slip stitch to join.
Row 2-6: Chain 2, single in each stitch.
After the slip stitch on the last row, chain 6, then slip stitch back in the original stitch to make the hanger.
